Dear All,

I’ve published my first Android application Arabic SMS Reader v1.0.0 search for it in the market and give it a test.

Unfortunately I cant test it on my emulator, so I’m having faith in you guys to tell me, if it works well or not

The Application is simple, it suppose to have the sms inbox just as u open it, and when clicking on one item, it supposed to reveal your message into its right arabic format.

it worksgreat ,,, but it shows the body of the messages not the sender so its very confusing and does not support threads as well… a relook at the interface is urgently needed

it would be better if the application would work in the background and called as a process in other apps so i can use default SMS program to view arabic sms

thx for the app. It only worked though for one sms, the latest arabic one and forced closed on the older ones with the following pop up msg:

Sorry!
The application Arabic SMS Manager (process org.k) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

\anyways, thank you very much for this long awaited for app, and all the best. I hope we see some improvement and more Arabic enabled app coming soon.

Thanks for your comments, I’ll certainly work on those enhancements asap, I didn’t have time so I was just giving it a try to see if the proof of concept is working, but Thanks God it does.

Hassan, I would like to know the scenario you went through to give you this error, It’d be appreciated to tell me exactly what you have been through.

Sure, i’ve re-checked the application..

Through your app:

- I can read all the SMSs which include only Arabic letters (rectangular boxes)
- I can read all the SMSs which include only Latin letters
- The previous error pop up msg (the one one in my previous comment) was displayed as I attempted to read any SMS that includes both Arabic and Latin letters.
- The error msg was also displayed when attempting to read SMSs with Arabic letters and the following symbols
@
.

”

In summery, the application can only read Arabic if the received msg has only rectangular boxes. If within the SMS there are any letters or symbols displayed the application will give you the error msg outlined previously..

I hope this would be of help to you.

thanks for the app you posted in the market, plz do the following:
1- try to make it same as the sms app in android (sms chat).
2- add sender number. (icant see it )
3- ability to forward the sms.
4- add an icon (very simple) i guess its in asset folder.

First of all thank you very much for this wonderful piece of work. Yes it needs more development, but as fist step an excellent work where no one stepped that far.
Here is my experience,
I have DejaVuSans font and installed this app. I can read SMS Arabic and English and the mix Arabic and English as will without any problem. However, once I have a long messages (more than one page) I got the force close error very similer to Hassan’s. I guess the application cannot decode the page breakes between the messages and not able to link them together.
If we can improve the followings that will be greater:
- Display long sms without errors (the ones with more than one page)
- Bigger font.
- Add virtual keyboard.
- Add forward, delete, replay, etc…

Amr, please drop me an email with your phone number, i have some solution regarding keybord input. i can explain it to you.

Yes Hassan, It helped alot, I’ll do that fix right away.

And do some enhancement in the Design, It looks really ugly doesn’t it

Thanks Mohammed for your great feedback, I think i’d expect it’d crash on long messages, but I believe solutions are possible in that area.

Full control of SMS wasn’t my purpose in the first place, however adding the functionality of Arabic keyboard is one of it, So I guess i might need your help in that.

Great work Amr, and thanks to all the guys who worked on this achievement.

Hassan’s comment came right on the money, I tried more than once to open several sms, but then I noticed only one opening that didn’t include any symbols (only boxes, english letters and english numbers), meanwhile another one only had (brackets). I got the same error message.

there’s also something worth pointing out,
جوائز رائعة
I got
جوائ ز رائ عة
there seems to be a problem with the connected “hamza”.

it’s soo great finaly I can read arabic on my device. But there some errors with some messages I can’t figure it out .. soo keep up the hard work bro … I’m really proud of u and ur effort thank you

inshaAllah in the next releases I’ll be fixing this error and inshaAllah will try to include the functionality everywhere (browser, contacts and notes)

Hey I checked ur app…its good….but only with small sms….big sms make it force close..
I wonder if u can upload the source code on google code…. so many developers can improve the application…

I am also a developer…I am also working on a arabic application…but my text does not join it appears in seperate letters….

Dear all,
Sorry for being late in response, i was so busy the past couple of weeks.

The version 1.5 is almost over i covered the long messages problem along with adding native support to لا thanks God.

Still remaining issue in Writing the message which i believe i solved in some other applications.

Currently I’m testing it, and it’ll be released very soon inshaAllah.

Dear All, sorry for making you wait all this long.
I’m so sorry about that, I’ve been extremely busy in work, and I’d like to inform you that I’ll be more active on regular basis from now on.

I’ll be working on a new version of Arabic SMS Reader, and I’ll try to support the new Mobile devices.

The working on Arabization of the whole system is done be Aman, you can find all the information you need from here

Hi I am writing to you from Iran. I recently bought Iphone 3GS from china (chinese iphone) and i am looking to get arabic sms software to make my mobile able to send persian sms since it has common alphabet with arabic. would you please send me your Arabic SMS Reader v1.0.1 download link for me. i could not find it here.
