Hi all,

I believe someone in this forum would be able to guide me in my endeavour. I want to support Arabic in Android 2.1.

I am able to shape the arabic characters well. But I am facing some real performance issues. When I am composing a message in arabic, after I enter a few characters, the response becomes too slow. If I do not shape the letters, the response is good.

I ported the shaper code to native c and am calling the shaping function from skia skdraw.cpp. If I do this, the response is very good but I see some extra space characters which are clearly not acceptable. I'am missing anything here? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Due to the fact I dont have enough time, and I dont have an Android phone to test against :)

Salam to all,
The communication above dos not lead to the arabic sms ver 1.5 release yet. Can someone elaborate on whether there is a release available. Tthe truth is that I was shocked when I bought my Behold II Android phone to find ot it does not support Arabic language. It is an expensive phone yet not that useful without this feature.

@Amr

That's totally understandable. I think it is a good idea to not release any user apps until they are nice and polished. However, if you were to open up your code for developers only (by not releasing anything on the market, or any APK) then you could get the community involved to help you in getting the libraries into a user-usable state!

Especially when you can get devs (like me) with actual android devices to help you test and fix bugs/features.

shokran owie for the response!
